Creative Director – NEW 30th May 2014
Ilex Press enjoys an unrivalled international reputation for its cutting edge publishing/visual book program spanning the fast-changing world of creativity, both digital and traditional. We are now looking for a really talented Creative Director to take the program further forward, setting a new benchmark for the design and originality of our award-winning titles.
The role is absolutely integral to the publishing program, with hands-on involvement all the way from original concept stage through to signing off print specs and marketing materials. In addition the Creative Director will manage a packed program of in-house live book production, liaising with design and editorial teams to ensure that the finished titles match or better the original concepts.
The successful candidate must not only be a superb designer in his or her own right, but must also be able to demonstrate the ability to select the right designer for the job, and the ability to communicate, brief and art direct that designer through to the finishing line. A thorough knowledge of print techniques, finishes and effects is essential, as is direct experience of both traditional book trade sales channels and non-book trade channels. And with some two-thirds of Ilex sales coming from outside the UK, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of how international design sensitivities vary and how best to create the right look for the market.
Specific requirements include:
- A portfolio of superb book design work
- A track record of successful design commissioning and art directing
- In-depth knowledge of book print production, finishes and effects
- Experience of designing for the US market
- Demonstrable creative and lateral thinking and problem-solving
- Extensive book and packaging designer contacts
- A self-starter and good listener
