The Ilex Press has achieved an international reputation as a publisher of high quality illustrated reference books which cover all aspects of creativity and popular culture. The company was formed in January 2000 as a collaborative venture between the directors of The Ivy Press and Alastair Campbell. Ilex Press books are published under its own imprint, Ilex, throughout the World in the English language (excluding North America), and are distributed in these markets by Thames & Hudson. In North America, our books are published by publishers such as Focal Press, The Reader’s Digest, Chronicle Books, Abrams, Harper Collins, Watson Guptill, St Martin’s Press, Pixiq, Running Press, and O’Reilly. Our books have been translated into many languages – the current record for a single title is 22 – including French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, and many more.
Ilex has two distinct lists. Ilex Photo publishes intensely practical
handbooks and reference works for professional and amateur alike. We are now considered to be one of the foremost publishers of digital photography know-how in the world, with many of our titles appearing regularly in the category bestseller charts worldwide.
Ilex Press explores popular culture and the visual media, quickly sharing
the new talents, new genres and new techniques. Our inspirational genre surveys allow the reader to be instantly up-to-date with the latest trends, our authoritative biographies of major figures become standard works, and our cutting edge digital creativity books give you the tools you need to impress.
In both areas we are at the forefront of the new Digital Publishing: e-books, enhanced e-books, book apps, and practical apps can all be found on our list, and new concepts are always in development. Creating these best-selling digital products not only brings our expertise to new markets, it keeps our editors on the cutting edge.
